Welcome to this week’s installment of The Friday Five, featuring five of my favorite travel blog posts for you to check out! Think of it as a great way to introduce you to some awesome new bloggers who are having some truly incredible adventures! Here are my picks for this week:
Why You Should Keep Your Travel Savings In a Different Bank
Emily of Maiden Voyage wrote this guest post for Don’t Ever Look Back as part of their “Frugal February” series, detailing ways to save money in preparation for traveling. Here, Emily details an incredible idea that I had never quite thought of before…opening a savings account in a separate bank that you automatically make small contributions to. If it’s online only, it has a better interest rate and since it takes 2 days to transfer money over, you’re less tempted to spend it! Brilliant!
Brothels & Graveyards | Exploring Nevada’s Seedy Side
Now, I grew up in Las Vegas, so I’ve constantly been bombarded with questions about prostitution being legal in Nevada. Well the fact of the matter is that it’s not legal in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, so it’s not something I was every exposed to. But meanwhile, Pamela of Spunkygirl Monlogues is exploring the area near Reno where prostitution is alive and kicking! In her time up there, she seen a graveyard with certain tombs marked by four poster bed (*cough* prostitutes *cough*) and even toured a real, operating brothel! It’s an unreal experience!
Why We Visit Tragic Places
Visiting places where true horrors happened is hard. Yet we still do it. Matt over at LandLopers draws from his own experience visiting both Dachau, the infamous Nazi concentration camp, as well as Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial, to explain why it is so important to visit places like these! A great read!
Yes, I Travel; No, I Don’t Have a Trust Fund: Budgetary Breakdown of a Working-Class Frequent Traveler
Lauren over at Lonely Girl Travels dispels a very frequent myth…that somehow it takes a lot of money to travel the world. She details how she goes about setting aside money each paycheck and carefully tracking her spending so that she can maximize that travel time! She makes it look so easy! Maybe she can be an inspiration to you?
My Love of Bocce
Michael from Go, See, Write details a sport that he is awfully fond of…Bocce, a sort of Italian version of bowling that is apparently popular in Napa. Now, just why the popularity there? It is the perfect game to play while drinking! Imagine that…playing a sport with a drink in hand! What could possibly be better…?

Thanks so much for featuring my post! Glad you enjoyed it–I’m happy to share my money-saving trick with other travelers 🙂
My pleasure! And that’s a super handy tip too!
Many, many thanks for finding my post and including me! Very nice of you.
I’m happy to feature your post Michael! I love things that make me smile and your post certainly did!
Awesome, I actually haven’t read any of these yet. I’ll have to check them out now.
Glad I could introduce you to some new reading material Nick!
Thanks so much for the mention, Aaron! I’m glad you liked the article. I seem to have lost a few people over it. Which I find funny being that I left all of the x-rated parts out!! haha
Hahaha I love it! Though I grew up in Nevada, I never actually visited a brothel! In fact the closest I got to the them was the little tents you’d see off the side of the road once you got out of Clark County! Those are a far cry from the fancy schmancy one that you visited!
Great selection
Thank you!
