Who here knows a Chinese proverb or two? Perhaps you can help me decipher this mystery of a sign?
Now, a little background. This sign, like so many, many others, is in the Chinese UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lijiang located in the southwestern Yunnan province. Lijiang is surrounded by lots of dramatic mountains and rivers (as seen below), so I can see why they’re suggesting that the mountains and rivers are your friends. After all, you shouldn’t harm your friends, right?
But it’s the last part that kind of gets to me. Mountains and rivers are your friends so be a good tourist? In a city?
