I give you credit Aaron – I am a huge fan of travel and experiencing new cultures… but Iran, Iraq and Egypt are just too risky when you consider how many other beautiful and safe places in the world there are. That said I totally respect your position and am glad you have had a positive experience!

I think you missed the point of the article you commented on Tim. Risk is in the eye of the beholder and if you simply watch the news and read travel advisories, then yes, you would assume they were risky. But with a little research, you learn that you can’t write off an entire country based on a few hot spots. Even Yemen, a place few would even dream of visiting at the moment, has this incredible gem of an island that is totally safe (and otherworldly) called Socotra that I’m just itching to get to. But I wouldn’t set foot elsewhere in Yemen. Much like I wouldn’t visit any part of Iraq that wasn’t part of the Kurdistan Region (which I would still visit today) because what few people realize is that Iraq is really two completely different countries with two different security situations. One is stable and safe (Kurdistan) and one is not (the rest of Iraq).
As for Iran, read some experiences of people who have been. It’s an incredible place and I’ve heard nothing but incredibly positive things about it and about how warm and friendly people are.

    Hi Aaron,

    Awesome!

After being warned by fam and friends we spent a month in Istanbul, Turkey, 6 days after the coup and 3 weeks after the attacks at the airport. Beautiful time. Zero issues. Few places on earth are dangerous. Like, the few active war zones, and maybe notorious hot spots (few and far between) and the rest of the world, and Middle East begs to be seen, experienced and enjoyed. 99.99% of people in the ME and on earth are really kind, nice and inviting. Travel. Get to know them. Bring the world together.

    Ryan

Sooooooo very true! Travel. Get to know them. And you’ll understand that we really aren’t all that different after all.
