NYC Holiday Magic: Holiday Windows

The holidays in New York City. That phrase alone exudes romanticized visions of grandeur. After all, NYC is known for two big things at this time of year: the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree and those infamous and extravagant holiday window displays that all those fancy stores put up.

Many of these can be seen on a walk down Fifth Avenue, by and large one of the most famous shopping streets in the world. Starting at 58th Street and walking downtown, one first encounters Bergdorf Goodman, with their impressive display.

Head a block down and encounter Tiffany & Co., made famous in the 1961 film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Their tiny windows showcase their products, which are, of course, not food.

Right next door, one encounters Trump Tower, now famous from the TV series, “The Apprentice.” While they lack a window display, per say, what they’ve done with their windows verges on gaudy, if you ask me.

Kitty corner opposite Trump Tower, one finds the upscale shop that is Henri Bendel. While most smaller stores don’t tend to do quite as much for the holidays, this one kind of blew me away!

As you continue downtown, take a glance over at the Tommy Hilfiger and Fendi stores, 2 sites you absolutely cannot miss for their extravagant lighting displays!

Finally, you find yourself at Saks Fifth Avenue. If you saw my video from Wednesday of their 3D projection show, you may recall that it heavily touted bubbles (as well as snowflakes). Well, surprise surprise, those bubbles become a major theme in their holiday window displays!

Now that you’ve made it to Saks, turn around and look at the crown jewel of the holiday season in NYC. That’s right folks, you’ve made it to Rockefeller Center and that incredible Christmas Tree is right behind you!

And as this brings to close my special series on the Holiday Magic in NYC, I just want to say that, despite the bitter cold here that I love to despise, Andy Williams was right! This really is the most wonderful time of the year!

When I'm not blissfully on the road, I reside in New York City, where I become the ultimate travel junkie and spend my days dreaming up my next great adventure! Read More...
