I’ve Been a Bad Blogger…

I’ve been a bad blogger…

If you read this site regularly, you may have noticed that I haven’t posted in the last month. If you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed that my tweets have been largely silent. But fear not, it’s not that I’ve given up, I’ve just been busy. Insanely busy, in fact.

See, I’m not one of those fancy travel bloggers who’s perpetually traveling (like Wandering Earl, who has continually been traveling for the past 12 years and is a great guy…I met him in New York City last month). I have a job like most people do. And I have a life that has absolutely nothing to do with travel. Sometimes, like in the past month, that job and life get in the way of writing and tweeting…both of which take a lot more time than people think!

Work

It’s not for lack of trying. I love to travel and I love to share my thoughts with you. And I have so many stories to share from a lifetime of travel. Like what it was like to spend a childhood in Ecuador… (didn’t know that about me? Check out my About page) that I hope you’ll stick around to read.

I freelance professionally so there is very little consistency in my life. This is great because it gives me the freedom to travel. But it also means that I go from doing very little do being absolutely slammed work-wise in the blink of an eye. The last couple months were slammed, giving me little time to have a social life and practically no time for blogging!

But I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

Travel Plans

Life is calming down. And there is some very exciting travel stuff coming up for me!

O the next 3 months, I’ll be embarking on some brand new adventures, starting, oh….a week ago! A month in Charlotte, NC for work. A week in Rochester, NY for work. A week and a half in San Francisco to visit family. And then a month or so in the Middle East on an adventure that is still in the planning stages. All in all, it means very little time will be spent at home for me (which means more time to write about all the amazing experiences that will come from these trips!), and that’s a good thing!

Help Me Plan Some Adventures!

In fact, I’d love your help in planning these adventures. What do you recommend for Charlotte or the San Francisco Bay Area? What about the Middle East? I’m definitely starting in Israel, which I know somewhat limits my travel in the area. Where else should I check out while I’m there?

So for now I can say, I’m back! And through all this upcoming travel, I will definitely have something to share with you! All I can say is, I’m glad to have you along for the ride!

Best,
Aaron

Hey there! I'm Aaron and this is my travel site, where I document my adventures to all corners of the world. My love for travel started at the ripe old age of four, when a midlife crisis uprooted my family to Ecuador for five years. Since then, I've been to countries on 4 different continents. When I'm not blissfully on the road, I reside in New York City, where I become the ultimate travel junkie and spend my days dreaming up my next great adventure! Read More...

There is a lot in Charlotte. If you’re into museums try:
Mint Museum, Levine Museum, Nature Museum, Gantt Center, Bechtler (and many more)

If you’re into hiking or rafting try the Whitewater Center

Nature: Botanical gardens or wing haven gardens are great

Nascar type: there is a hall of fame AND you can check out the Richard Petty Driving Experience where last I heard you do get to drive.

Rollercoasters? Try Carowinds

There’s also professional sports and tons of fun dining… try some local BBQ while there, it’s different from that served elsewhere in the US and be sure to get the hush puppies on the side.

Want a scenic drive? Head up to Asheville – fall colors should be good right now and you can be up and back in a day. In that area you can also visit the Vanderbilt mansion or take a day trip to Chinqua Penn. Visiting Penland School of Crafts is also a good day trip.

There’s a lot more, just a Google trip away.

Wow thanks for the great advice Maria!! Sounds like you’re very familiar with Charlotte! Have you lived here?

Miss you over on Twitter, Aaron! But I totally get it. Life/work can interfere with blogging..LOL. Cool, of course, that a trip is in the works!

I highly recommend spending at least 3 nights in Wadi Rum, Jordan. It was one of the highlights of my trip last year. It’s a shame that Syria is still a mess. If it were OK, I’d say that you should check it out.

Whatever you do, I wish you happy and safe travels!

Awww thanks Lisa! After reading about your experiences I’d love to visit Wadi Rum. And, alas, I’ll have that Israeli stamp problem so even if Syria were in decent shape, I’d still have issues getting in…

Aaron, you just recapped the 30 days of my life between early August and early September. I was swamped with work at a job that has nothing do to with travel. Now, like you, I am getting ready to take on some fantastic adventures with one of the most exciting projects I’ve ever done. Trust me when I say I can relate but I am also excited for my future plans as well.

When are you in San Francisco?

Hahaha I think a lot of Bloggers go through this when life just gets in the way. It’s not for lack of trying but keeping up a blog really is like another full time job in itself! When I’m already working the equivalent of….oh….3 it’s a bit much!

I’ll be in the Bay Area November 19-30.

Hey Aaron, if you need suggestions for Israel and Jordan, PM on Twitter or check out my blog posts from June/July of last year. Three nights is all I would do in Wadi Musa and there is a great little hostel there within walking distance of the Circle. I can’t recall the name but it’s run by a Jordanian/British couple and they were very welcoming to me.

As for the rest of the Middle East, if you can start elsewhere, like Lebanon or Syria first, then you won’t have to worry about the passport issue with Israel. I wish I had thought to do that myself. Try to do some couchsurfing while you are there, I have a friend now from my couchsurfing experience in Israel and I can definitely put you two in touch. You should spend at least one night in Masada so you can wake up at the ass-crack of dawn to hike the Snake Path up to the top and see the sun rise over the Dead Sea. It was one of my favorite memories. For fun, you can also see if you can find Sodom and Gomorrah…not too far away from there, though you can’t get there by bus! 😉 There is so much more I could tell you but if you have specific things you want to do, let me know and I can give you some ideas. I love Israel and cannot wait to go back…

Unfortunately, I can’t start elsewhere than Israel, so no way around the Passport stamp problem for me this time around (or, I guess till I get a new passport in 3 years or so). Thanks for the tips Heather! I’m pretty excited! And OF COURSE CouchSurfing is on the list of things to do! It’s one of my favorite travel activities!

Saba’a Hotel! Yes, they’re fantastic. They floated me when I got into a bit of a money situation in Jordan. Great, clean place for cheap and a really friendly couple.

That’d be awesome! I’ll be in town for a week and a half so I’ll have plenty of free time! And lives… What??

Hey Aaron – exciting things ahead!

I still owe you some travel tips for Israel. I second the comment above about visiting Masada earlier (wrote about it on my blog – just do a search). Also, I couchsurfed a few times in Israel, but I have to admit Tel Aviv isn’t the easiest place for it.

That’s a shame that Tel Aviv isn’t an easy place to CouchSurf. It’s one of my favorite travel experiences (though I have a friend who lives in Tel Aviv, so we’ll see if that works out).
