All those stories you’ve heard are true. The Chinese sure do love their bycicles as a means of getting around town. That’s not to say that they don’t have a plethora of two-wheeled motorbikes clogging the bike lanes, but the pedal powered versions have a formidable force!

The downside to these two-wheeled forms of transit is that their driver’s tend to bend the rules a bit, squeezing into areas a car would never fit through. That’s not just a China thing…I can’t tell you how many times I’ve nearly been run over by a cyclist on the streets of New York City!

So, it is perhaps no surprise that the Chinese city of Chengdu, capital of it’s famed Sichuan province, should kindly request that cylclists walk their bikes at certain points. Now, if only they could make that request in as few words…

Say What?? is a thrice weekly series featuring numerous signs from my travels. Check back every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for updates! Or better yet, subscribe to receive them automatically!
