Say What?? Travel Photos: Valuables
Buddhism in China is a funny thing. It certainly doesn’t manifest itself in the same way as it does in Southeast Asia or even in Tibet. In fact, in many parts, you wouldn’t even know that Buddhism really existed in China (though remember two words that contributed greatly to that…Cultural Revolution). That’s not to say that it’s totally nonexistent though. Signs can be found around the country, particularly as you get closer to Tibet.
Enter China’s 4 holy Buddhist peaks, one of which I had the distinct pleasure of visiting. That is, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Emei Shan (Mt. Emei). Located a few hours southwest of Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province, Emei Shan is famed for its peaks, which are dotted with more Buddhist temples than you can possibly keep track of.
From the base, it’s a 2 day hike to the summit where you can spend the night in any number of Buddhist monasteries (which was probably one of the most wonderful experiences I had). It’s a strenuous hike as you climb 2,549 meters or 8,362 feet from the base.
But there is good news. There is no shortage of hilarious signs to keep you entertained! (If you been following this series for a while, then you may remember their attempt at ssuicide prevention, fire prevention and their snow warnings…).
But today it’s not about protecting you against physical injury. It’s about protecting your valuables!
That’s right! You should only have valuable personal belongings while you’re by yourself. That way you can be absolutely sure that nobody else will steal them! At the very least you should leave them by yourself. So, like, by your body. Or maybe they mean on your body…that would make sense…
